Nokuthula Dlomo is passionate about upskilling people. While working in a community skills centre in orange farm as a Cluster Administrator for CWP (Community WorkPlace Program), she was introduced to ATVANCE ACADEMY. She immediately started recruiting students and went from recruiting for ATVANCE ACADEMY to becoming a facilitator at the Orange Farm campus.
Over the period of two years, Nokuthula helped 600 young graduates achieve their qualifications. “It’s been a beautiful journey seeing people’s lives changing and parents coming to thank you because they had given up on their children. What makes it even harder is that Orange Farm has high rates of teenage pregnancy, HIV and drug abuse, so seeing students doing something positive in their lives is fulfilling,” she says.
“Studying project management as a student, you need to first master your life. Once you master yourself, you’re able to master other people. Being a facilitator, you also offer life skills by taking students to seminars”.
While she loved being a facilitator at ATVANCE ACADEMY, she decided to explore the business world, joining ATVANCE ACADEMY as a data capturer. She has also started studying, doing a Diploma in ODETP. “The company has helped me grow ever since I started in 2017 and being at the head office is a great opportunity because you get to see all the work that goes on behind the scenes compared to when you’re on the ground with the students,” Nokuthula says.
